Visual Function Assessment Core

Please cite or acknowledge the use of Visual Function Assessment Core (RRID: SCR_027277) in your publications!

Research Resource Identifiers (#RRID) are ID numbers assigned to help authors identify all key biological resources including core facilities, support the proper citation and authentication of each resource, and enable the FAIR sharing of resource information. RRIDs are part of the MDAR checklist, a pan-publisher rigor and transparency checklist created and endorsed by major publishers. RRIDs are also part of the NISO JATS standard, the journal article tagging suite.

Overview of Services

To fully understand the mammalian visual system requires an accurate assessment of visual system function which is often compromised in diseases of the retina, optic nerve, cornea, and lens. The Visual Function Assessment Core provides the technical expertise and instrumentation for scientists at Augusta University to analyze visual function in rodent models of ocular disease. The Visual Function Assessment Core is funded by the prestigious National Eye Institute (NEI) Center Core Grant for Vision Research (P30) awarded to the Vision Discovery Institute (VDI) of Augusta University. Visual assessments included in this core include:

  •  Electroretinography (ERG)
  •  Optomotor response (OMR)
  •  Spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT)
  •  Fundoscopy and fluorescein angiography (FA)
  •  Slit-lamp biomicroscopy
  •  Laser induction of vasculopathy
  •  Measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP)
  •  Corneal Confocal Microscope (CCM)
